To keep safe on the road you should follow these basic safety tips:

  • Get trained – learn how to cycle safely and keep control of your bike
  • Protect your head – always wear a properly fitted helmet
  • Be seen and heard – make sure you wear bright, fluorescent and reflective clothing. Fit a bell to your bike.
  • Check your bike – make sure your bike is road worthy at all times by using the simple “M check” (found as an attachment on this page)
  • Know what you are doing – be alert and plan a safe route
  • Stay legal – obey The Highway Code
