ROAD SAFETY LESSONS

Buckinghamshire County Council’s Sustainability Services Team has worked with Police Community Support Officers to develop Lesson Plans to deliver road safety sessions.

The lesson plans have been designed with three levels in mind – one for key Stage 1, one for key Stage 2 and one for key Stage 3. Each level focuses on different aspects of road safety, ranging from very basic messages to messages for those pupils which are slightly older.

The lesson plans can be used in any way, by anyone (PCSOs, teachers, volunteers, School Crossing Patrollers etc) The lesson plans can be adapted to fit the message the school would like to get across.

Please note PCSOs may not have time to deliver road safety talks in schools. You can contact your schools’ PCSO via the local police station.

Gist child road safety programme
Since April 2013 the Sustainability Services Team has been working with a company called Gist Ltd to support and promote child road safety to schools, raising awareness of pedestrian and cycle safety around large vehicles. Gist bring a truck to the school site, or nearby venue, and deliver a classroom presentation, all free of charge.

To book a session please email Karen Harrington, the Gist Ltd, Project Manager.

What do our STP Co-ordinators have to say…
Thank you so much for organising a really great visit to Claytons yesterday, the children really enjoyed it and that’s such a help in getting important road safety messages to sink in.

The teachers were also very enthusiastic: please pass on all our thanks to Colin and Martin for a job well done, and to your management for promoting the scheme.

I look forward to seeing you again.
Joanna Hitchen, Claytons Combined School
