Child Road Safety and Awareness Programme

Footsteps is a road safety and awareness programme for primary school children, developed by Buckinghamshire Council. It is a training programme which is designed to help children to learn to think for themselves and gradually get better at dealing with roads and traffic.

The main aims of the Footsteps Programme are

  • To encourage children to think about roads and traffic.
  • To increase children’s knowledge and understanding through practical experience.
  • To improve their performance as pedestrians.
  • To help the children to learn how to be more responsible for their own safety.

Recommendation

“At High March we are proud of our School Travel Plan and of our approach to promoting Sustainability. We hold the Modeshift Stars Platinum Award for our work.

We all feel that Footsteps Road Safety and Awareness Training is very worthwhile, especially for pupils in Year 2.

Our overriding message to other schools is to “Give Footsteps a Go but keep the training simple to ensure parents volunteer! “
